  • Canine Parvovirus

  • Bordetella (Canine Cough)

Our Requirements for a Happy Pack at Happy Hound

Ready to join the Pack at Happy Hound?

Note:  Any vaccine will take days to weeks to stimulate the dog's protective immunity to the disease. If you plan to bring your dog to Happy Hound Doggie Day Care, remember to vaccinate a few weeks prior to coming, to allow the full protective immunity to build up.

Although we do require full vaccinations for all dogs using Happy Hound services, once your dog is over two years of age, providing they have been kept up to date on their shots, it is acceptable if you choose to do these vaccinations every 2-3 years, whichever you and your vet are comfortable with. (Upon filling out our client information card you give us permission to contact your vet to confirm shots are up to date.)

BORDETELLA IS THE EXCEPTION, this MUST be done regularly, preferably no less than every 12 months.

Bordetella (Canine Cough) is contagious and easily spread from dog to dog.
We turn away all dogs that show any signs of coughing, sneezing, sniffing, snorting, and/or hacking. If the dogs show signs after the owner has left we will contain them and call the owner for pick up.

We disinfect our premises daily, but if a dog is carrying it and comes in with no symptoms, there is little we can do at our end. That is why we ask you who know your dog best, anything out of the ordinary, please keep them home.

In almost all cases Bordetella is a like a "cold" your dog gets, they are a bit under the weather for a few days and it generally clears up all on its own. We suggest keeping them home for a few extra days after all symptoms have cleared. Dogs with lower immune systems, puppies, and older dogs can in rare cases become very ill and should see a vet if you believe the symptoms to be worsening. While I would never downplay any illness in dogs, it is not something to panic about. It can be likened to a cold cutting its way through your children's school. Some kids get sick, some get really sick, and a few should go see the doctor in case it goes into the lungs. Just like kids your dog should stay home and rest. If you are concerned please consult your veterinarian.

Parasite Control

All dogs visiting Happy Hound should be on an effective Parasite/Flea  preventative control program - Either monthly or seasonally (May 1st to Oct 31st )

Happy Hound standards are for the protection of your pet. Please keep them healthy and parasite free.
